...Hi Mark (*waves*) I believe you are local to me!

I appreciate your comments, and I would just say that I am really talking about the sort of person who puts out masses and masses of food - and let's be honest, we all know people who do that - because they are somewhat over-enthused by their new "pets",

You actually say that you put out "a bit of food" and that's fine: as you say, Hedgehogs will normally wander around several gardens each night.

My issue is with people who don't understand about wild animals, and who treat them like pets, over-feeding them in order to get more and more of them, dancing to their pied piper tune.

Other than that, I'm glad you liked the article!Rachel the Gardenerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17025126472323801610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1736928270390224037.post-3053820265659349422021-07-02T14:19:00.486+01:002021-07-02T14:19:00.486+01:00Hi Rachel, Nice article but I cant say I agree wit...Hi Rachel, Nice article but I cant say I agree with you about the feeding of hedgehogs. We put a bit of food out and the hogs come and eat it for a few minutes but spend most of the time foraging in the garden or drinking from the pond. I dont believe they become dependent on food put out by well meaning people - just as birds dont - they just supplement their natural diet. They forage in many gardens per night and if one person then stops putting out food they dont starve and die, as its just one of many footstops, some natural some provided by us. Love the info on hedgehog highways, so important for hogs and other wildlife, fragmentation of habitat is a huge issue.
